Time of My Life
Company: Western Illinois University
Role: The Calvinu Family (Five waiters)
Director: D.C. Wright
Despite its simple premise of three couples dining (oh, and time-travel), Time of My Life was described by several students as the best mainstage production in recent years. That’s a remarkable statement coming from a school focused primarily on musical theater, where such extravaganzas as Urine Town and Parade were still fresh in people’s memories.
Regardless of the show’s success, I really enjoyed the chance to create five distinct characters. The strong physical comedy of the Calvinu clan was something I hadn’t had a chance to do since undergrad. It was an area in which director D.C. Wright excelled: his confidence and deft guidance gave me the freedom and security I need to play. It was a blast.
