ELISE ZELL plays Dinyzade.
Elise Zell wants you to know that writing about herself in the third person feels super awkward and contrived, and she doesn’t understand it. I—um, I mean, Elise—has been acting her whole life, but started professionally in 2014, after leaving her job at Human Rights Watch along with my—sorry, her—dignity and sanity, and she’s been all the happier for it. Much love to Interlochen, Pitzer College, University of Michigan, the U.S. Fulbright Scholarship and Nutella. Thank you Monchichi, Master Splinter, Chopbox and lover. And to our fearless playwright, director and deep voice expert—this has been a wondrous work of fantasy. Thank you for letting me in on the magic.
P.S. Elise Zell is proudly represented by Lily’s Talent. Hit them up if you want to give her work. She loves work.
DINYZADE, Scheherazade’s younger sister, is clown character strongly influence by Launce and Lancelet, with a tiny bit of Touchstone thrown in. Though excitable and easily distracted, it is suggested at times that she is perhaps not as dull-witted as everyone wants to think she is.
“My Lords, I am no great Oratrix like
My Sister, nor hold the pow’r of Polity
As you Commanders have; i’sooth I once
Was driv’n to wrastling with a Mungrel whom
I fail’d to politic out of my Slipper,
That is I could not politic the Slipper
From him. Good Sir, says I, but Neverr says
The Mut: I pray, says I, but Neverr says
The Cur: I command, I, but Neverr says
The Dog: and all an Hour is spent in such
A bootless enterprise, that Slipper’s naught
But bootstraps ‘pon the cease of mine Oration:
Thus dined he on silk, and I tread soleless.
Ah me.”
